There was no June safety memo from the Director
Ann polled the committee about interaction with members and managers. Several members have approached their manager with safety issues. Those members noted that the managers were responsive and that those issues had been resolved in a timely manner.
MSDS sheets must be kept for 30 years according to BWC. Even if a product is no longer used we must still keep the MSDS sheet on it.
Dave discussed clutter in the mechanical rooms with managers. They were told that those rooms have to be cleared and were given guidelines for what things could be kept in them. We have 30 days to comply. Charles is working on mechanical room clearance also and reported that it is going well.
Shakely group will be back in October to check on our committee progress and to give us more information on the direction we need to be going.
Dave asked if we thought a separate supply list in the Safety committee folder (just for safety related items) would be helpful. We agreed it would and he will be working on getting that list posted.
Dave also reported that maps/exit routes for each facility is in process. We also do not have the remainder of the branches reports from the BWC. Dave also is expecting to have a disaster preparedness plan available in September 2006.
We also discussed that a few branches had not completed their building audits. Please try to have those completed before the next meeting. We will also keep a separate folder for patron safety concerns and for the walk through.
Ann passed out some information on protecting older workers. This has some good information that applies to all employees regardless of age.
There was some discussion about knowing what kind of safety things we are suppose to be looking for. Ann is going to try and locate some guidelines to pass out at the next meeting. ADDED 7-27-06 – Ann will email websites for members to browse at their convenience. A clear cut guideline was not available.
We have had no workplace accidents so far in June. We also discussed employee awareness and/or incentives. Dave says the Staff Recognition Committee will be discussing this also.
The next meeting is on July 26 at the Milford branch. Expect the meeting to run 2 hours.
APPROVED – 7-27-06
